Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation Grants

Two types of insulation grant are available to homeowners and private tenants. 100% grants cover the full cost of Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation. Partial grants can cover up to 75% of the cost. In both cases, the grants are arranged by approved insulation installers and they do not have to be paid back.

100% Insulation Grants

Anyone aged 70 or above is entitled to a grant that will cover the entire cost of any insulation works!

100% grants are also available to households where any person living in the house receives any of the following benefits, tax credits or allowances:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Council Tax Benefit (single person's discount does not qualify)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Disabled Persons Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Child Tax Credit (combined income must be under £15,592)
  • Working Tax Credit (combined income must be under £15,592)
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit *
  • Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • War Disablement Pension **
  • Pension Credit (state pension only does not qualify)

* Must also be in receipt of Constant Attendance Allowance

** Must include Mobility Supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance

Sounds too good to be true? The Government and utility companies consider these households to be a priority, which is why insulation is offered free of charge. This type of funding is also known as 'Priority Group'. You may be required to provide evidence of your age or benefits received in order to claim this fully funded grant.

Partial Insulation Grants

If you do not qualify for a 100% insulation grant, you will still qualify for a grant of up to 75%. All homeowners and private tenants are eligible. This is known as 'Able To Pay Funding'. Householders will have to pay a small contribution towards the cost. This is typically recovered within two years from the savings made on heating bills.
