Big Energy Week aims to help tackle rising energy costs

16 January 2012

Today marks the start of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau Big Energy Week - running from 16th until 21st January - which aims to provide help and advice to consumers who are struggling with rising energy bills.

A study commissioned by Citizens’ Advice showed that 43% of people are worried that they cannot afford their next energy bill, with price hikes putting extra strain on household budgets that may already be stretched.

The study also showed that over 96,000 customers contacted Citizens’ Advice over their fuel debt problems last year.

To support these customers; energy companies, consumer organisations, switching sites and Government agencies will work together to provide help and advice as part of the Citizens' Advice Bureau Big Energy Week.

Customers will be able to get guidance on a range of measures to make it easier to lower energy costs and save money, including switching energy supplier or moving to a more efficient and affordable energy tariff.

One of the easiest ways to tackle rising energy costs is to take advantage of free Government Home Insulation Grants. These are currently available to all homeowners and private tenants and can cover up to 100% of the cost of Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation.

A household with Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation will better retain heat, can be fitted in half a day, and will subsequently reduce energy bills by up to £310 per year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

Protect against the freezing conditions, cut your energy bills and make your home more energy efficient during Big Energy Week; Apply Online now for a Government Home Insulation Grant.
