Insulation Survey - Free Home Insulation

Before you can have insulation installed, one of our approved Installers will need to carry out a Home Insulation survey of your property.

The survey will typically last no more than an hour, depending whether the surveyor is checking both the loft/roof and the walls.

There are a number of factors to check, including:

• Depth of Insulation already installed (must be under 4 inches/100 mm).
• Size of the area which needs to be insulated.
• Whether ventilation is adequate.
• Whether there is any damp present.
• Size of the hatch (must be 16 inches/40 cm square).
• Headroom is sufficient. Should be at least 4 foot/1.2 m.
• Position of the hatch in relation to tanks and pipes.
• Amount of pipework to be insulated.
• Number of cold water tanks to be insulated.

Not every home is suitable so the surveyor will carry out detailed checks, including:

• Width of the cavity in your walls.
• Area of Insulation required.
• Type of structure.
• Condition of the structure.
• Services (wiring etc.) through the cavity.
• Whether the cavity is free of debris.
• Whether any damp is present.
• If the damp course is defective.
• Whether the cavity tops are sealed.
• Whether ventilation is adequate.
• Access to the exterior of the walls.

The External Wall survey will include:

• Area of Insulation required.
• Type of structure.
• Condition of the structure.
• Services (flues etc.) through the walls.
• Fittings & fixtures to be removed & replaced.
• Whether any damp is present.
• If the damp course is defective.
• Whether ventilation is adequate.
• Access to the walls.
