Millions of homes could still benefit from Insulation

12 March 2012

The latest figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) show that almost 17 million households in the UK are still without adequate Loft Insulation and/or Cavity Wall Insulation.

DECC’s figures are calculated on the 26.7 million homes in Great Britain and illustrate that:

  • 9.2 million homes are still in need of Loft Insulation of at least 125mm. This represents 40% of homes with roofs.
  • 7.7 million homes still require Cavity Wall Insulation. This equates to 41% of homes with cavity walls.

Loft Insulation remains one of the most energy efficient ways of keeping a household warm and helps prevent up to 25% of heat being lost through a home’s roof. Cavity Wall Insulation can help stop up to 35% of heat being lost through a home’s walls. Installing both Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation can save a household up to £310 per year on energy bills.

There are also Government Home Insulation Grants currently available to all homeowners and private tenants that can cover up to 100% of the cost of Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation.

To qualify for a 100% free Insulation Grant, homeowners and private tenants must be aged 70 and above, or in receipt of certain benefits, tax credits or allowances. Those not entitled to a full Insulation Grant will still receive a Grant for between 40-70% of the cost.

Insulation Grants will not last forever; the current Grants scheme is scheduled to end on 31st December 2012.

Apply Online for a Home Insulation Grant now while they are still available. EnergyLink can then arrange for you to receive a free no-obligation survey for Loft and Cavity Insulation from one of our approved installers of Home Insulation.
